Fertility and Hypnotherapy
Unexplained infertility has been defined by the World Health organisation as “the inability of a couple to bring pregnancy to term after a year or more of regular unprotected intercourse”.
For anyone who has this diagnosis, this is great news. It means there is no physiological reason why you should not conceive. It means you are not infertile (you have the medical proof), you just have not conceived as yet!
Approximately 10-15 percent of couples experience infertility some time during their fertile years. The psychological impact of this can be devastating. Every month the woman is reminded she has ‘failed’ to get pregnant.

How Hypnotherapy can help with Fertility
A lot of stress has to do with perception rather than real danger. Hypnotherapy can assist you in retraining your body to let it know you are not in immediate danger and so overcome the stress response. Hypnotherapy also increases confidence, giving back a sense of control that so many couples feel is missing because of medical procedures and investigations. The fertility treatment programme is individually tailored to each couple.
It is widely believed that psychological or emotional distress, which may be conscious or unconscious, can build to such an extent that a physical resistance to conception is created. Using a range of hypnotherapeutic techniques, many “blocks” that have a detrimental effect on the likelihood of conception can be removed, allowing nature to take its course or increasing the likelihood of a successful fertility cycle.
Couples are encouraged to “stop trying to conceive”. It is an unconscious process. You can’t make a pregnancy occur, rather just allow it to happen. Restoration of hormonal balance is also an unconscious process. Hormones can be rebalanced during hypnosis when the unconscious mind is more open and available to change.
